Course scope and learning pathway
Develop instructional techniques for designing, delivering and assessing aviation training. Use initial Cabin Crew examples where relevant. Subject-specific qualification, national acceptance and CCTO appointment remain separate from success on this pedagogical course.
- Audience
- New or developing instructors preparing to teach within a CCTO or another documented aviation-training setting.
- Before you start
- Suitable teaching English, a subject area supported by existing competence, and admission review. This pedagogical course does not supply every specialist subject qualification.
- Learning format
- 16 hours online + 16 hours workshops + 4 hours portfolio + 4 hours assessment.
- Completion document
- Certificate of Successful Completion
Objectives and completion evidence
- Prepare safe, accessible learning conditions and define the scope of instruction.
- Design objectives, practice and assessment that address observable performance.
- Support diverse adult learners through clear explanations and evidence-based feedback.
- Deliver interactive classroom and online sessions with purposeful questions and debriefs.
- Assess knowledge, portfolios and observed teaching fairly against published criteria.
- Evaluate learning evidence and turn findings into specific course improvements.
- Demonstrate improved teaching and plan continued professional development.
After editorial release: accepted prerequisites, online study, verified workshops, portfolio, supervised knowledge and observed teaching, followed by a human award decision.
Your teaching assignment
Choose a topic within your established subject competence and a clearly defined novice audience. Map the full learning sequence and teach one twenty-minute extract. Align each objective with practice and observable evidence. Include accessibility, a fallback activity, feedback and a revised teaching attempt.
Use your existing lesson-plan and portfolio components. This contextual work belongs within the published preparation allocation; it is not extra credited time.
References and qualification scope
A generic pedagogical completion document does not itself require IATA branding or confer a regulated instructor qualification. Acceptance toward CCTO instructor requirements must be established under national requirements and the approved programme; each specialist subject has additional conditions.
- EASA — National instructor qualifications and examination arrangements — EASA explanation: qualification and examination arrangements require the national/CCTO context.
- EASA — Part-CC, CC.TRA.215/.220 and Appendix 1 — EU requirements and associated material; verify the applicable provision and delivery scope.
- ICAO — Digital learning for cabin crew, Circular 356 — Digital-learning guidance; not a replacement for all required practical exercises.
Programme timings, pass marks and activity design are EAC choices unless a specific applicable provision is identified.

Learn by teaching
56 interactive studios combine clear explanations, real photographs, English narration, captions, branching decisions and saved written practice. The Teaching Practice Lab lets you rehearse with fictional hesitant, overconfident or distracted learners. Alex provides ungraded feedback; optional browser dictation and speech playback complement the written response fields.
Downloadable resources
The original EAC Appendix D CCA Instructor Training Manual is available to authorised participants as a PDF, clearly labelled Edition 1 Revision 1, 1 June 2021. The new course includes a complete learning reference, candidate workbook and editable lesson-plan, scenario, question, rubric, source-register and portfolio templates. Instructor presentations, detailed assessor guidance and the question key are restricted to authorised staff.
Admission and workshops
Your assessor verifies readiness in the proposed teaching subject, relevant experience, teaching English and an admission diagnostic. Four workshops develop safe lesson design, learner support, assessment and observed teaching. Cohort dates and private Teams/Zoom links appear in your pathway.
Your original portfolio
Submit a lesson plan and alignment map, 12–15 original slides, trainer notes and source register, a teaching scenario and debrief, ten corrected questions, and an observation rubric with improvement reflection. Feedback and reviewed versions remain in your course record.
Assessment
Two formative microteaching attempts, a supervised 40-question knowledge assessment (60 minutes; 80% pass mark), and final observed teaching of at least 20 minutes plus 10 minutes discussion. All six rubric criteria must reach at least 3/4 with no unresolved critical error. The authorised human assessor validates the award after all requirements are met.
Completion record
An EAC Malta Ltd Certificate of Successful Completion with a verification reference and programme supplement records the completed pathway. Subject-specific instructor appointment remains a separate organisational decision.
